Looking to expand from their original brewpub in Idaho Springs, Colorado, the owners of Westbound & Down Brewing Company planned another location in the Santa Fe Arts District in downtown Denver.  The new outpost was to feature a boutique bar, experimental brewery, and creative restaurant concept.

The design floats a mass timber structure within an existing single-story masonry shell.  This distinctly structural approach was developed to preserve the urban streetscape along Santa Fe, provide parking relief, and to ultimately create an atmosphere that echoes the voluminous mining structures surrounding the company's Idaho Falls location.
